8:00 PM - Accessing Archives with Steven Fullwood
Accessing Archives is a series of presentations inviting renowned curators and archivists from a variety of national organizations to give in-depth perspectives on the field of archiving. We are excited to welcome Steven Fullwood, accomplished scholar, writer, and archivist. Formerly the assistant curator of the Manuscripts, Archives & Rare Books Division at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Fullwood founded the In the Life Archive to aid in the preservation of materials produced by and about LGBTQ people of African descent. Established in 1999, it is now the largest collection of black LGBT papers in America. His publications include Black Gay Genius: Answering Joseph Beam’s Call (2014), To Be Left with the Body (2008) and Carry the Word: A Bibliography of Black LGBTQ Books (2007). In 2018, Fullwood co-founded the Nomadic Archivists Project, an initiative to establish, preserve, and enhance collections that explore the African Diasporic experience. Fullwood is currently at work on his first feature documentary, Black Toledo.
