Promotion and Outreach Coordinator

The Promotion and Outreach Coordinator, a part time position, works with the Program Staff to promote Scribe Video Center’s programs, including educational workshops, community productions, public screenings and the catalog of media works produced through Scribe programs. Staying in close communication with Scribe’s diverse constituency is the core of the work, so that our programs are useful and used. An excellent writer and communicator, the Coordinator is focused on increasing, broadening and deepening program participation, as well as making the general public aware of Scribe produced works and programs. Planning and implementing promotional strategies for all our programs is a core responsibility of this position. A substantial part of this outreach work includes direct communication with our potential and actual constituency, through in person meetings, as well creating promotional materials for media and target audiences. The Promotion and Outreach Coordinator helps develop collaborative relationships, often through in person outreach, with a wide variety of Philadelphia area neighborhood organizations and schools, as well as recruiting program participants to take part in Scribe’s varied programs.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  1. Coordinates the writing, design and printing of the Scribe program brochure, working with the Director, Screening Manager, Curriculum Manager and Designer. Three brochures are published annually, promoting workshops, screenings and other special events in the upcoming season.
  1. Through in-person meetings, carries out direct outreach to neighborhood organizations, schools and arts organizations to enlarge and deepen our constituency and collaborations.
  1. Develops marketing strategies for the promotion of Scribe programs and completed video works, including identifying target audiences and the most effective methods for reaching them.
  1. Develops publicity materials, writes press releases and other promotional copy.
  1. Develops and strengthens relationships with local and regional press contacts, including maintaining a database.
  1. Assists in the distribution and exhibition of works produced through Scribe programs by writing program descriptions, uploading information to website and promoting Scribe work to various screening, festival and broadcast venues.
  1. Represents Scribe in the media, at professional conferences, panels and festivals within the arts community and media arts fields.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • A demonstrated commitment to progressive social change
  • Excellent writer and editor
  • Solid experience with layout and design for print and web-based media
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Solid marketing experience
  • Demonstrated ability with major social media platforms, social media marketing and promotional strategies
  • Superb researcher
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia area community organizations and community issues
  • Some knowledge about the digital media making process
  • Familiarity with the local community of media makers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, organize work assignments, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to contribute to problem-solving activities within a growing, changing organization.
  • Ability to act in a tactful and diplomatic manner and work on sensitive issues with diverse groups of individuals
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML and other appropriate software and apps
  • Experience working in a non-profit arts organization is preferred
  • A strong sense of aesthetics and style

 

HOURS AND COMPENSATION: $26.00 to $28.00 an hour. This position is posted as a part-time position (up to 24 hours a week).  Benefits includes employer contribution towards health care insurance, dental insurance, accrued paid time-off, and employer contribution to 403b retirement savings plan.

Power Politics - Oral History Conductors

Scribe Video Center is looking for paid student-workers to assist with Power Politics, an oral history project. Power Politics is an oral history project organized by Scribe Video Center, exploring strategies for political empowerment by historically disenfranchised communities, specifically interviewing organizers, activists, strategists and leaders in the Black, Puerto-Rican, Asian-American and other economically disadvantaged communities. These interviews, covering the period from 1945 until today, are carried out by Oral History Interns, who area high-school and college student trained in oral history methodology and documentary techniques by experienced journalist mentors.

Staff Producer/Coordinator of Community Productions

The Staff Producer/ Coordinator of Community Productions, a newly funded position at Scribe Video Center, supervises production programs and projects, including community media collaborations and other special projects. Production projects at Scribe include works developed by individual artists through our workshop program, short documentaries produced collaboratively with neighborhood groups, youth media productions, audio documentaries distributed as podcast and radio programs, and digital media productions created for other time-based media platforms, such as site specific installations. This is a 1/2 to 3/4 time position with full-health care, vacation, holiday and retirement savings benefits.

We are looking for a talented media artist with a deep and demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Scribe. The Staff Producer will have a solid range of production experiences in documentary, narrative/scripted films, new media platforms and audio production. The Staff Producer will ideally have a background in both producing and the technical craft of media making.

The Staff Producer works with the Executive Director and Managing Director to develop budgets and work on timelines for commissioned projects, as well as assembling and hiring crew. Project management is a key role of the Staff Producer, making sure projects are realizing in accordance with the original project goals, on a schedule and budget as planned.

The Staff Producer also supervises Scribe’s on-going community media, youth, oral history and audio production projects – insuring that they are of high technical quality and that the program participants have the resources necessary to create their work.

The work of the Staff Producer/Coordinator of Community Productions includes:

  • Project manager for Scribe’s on-going community media programs (including the Precious Places Community History Project, Community Visions, Muslim Voices);
  • Guiding productions that develop from our educational curricula,
  • Line producer for newly commissioned works, including site specific video installations;
  • Assisting peer organizations in adopting participatory production methodologies developed at Scribe.

We are looking for candidates with the following experience:

  • Five years experience in documentary media production;
  • Strong body of work that has been exhibited and distributed in multiple venues or platforms (including festivals, broadcasts, theatrical, community screenings)
  • Solid experience in multiple roles of documentary production
  • Production experience with a variety of traditional and new platforms for digital media (e.g. audio, video, VR, AR, site specific installation)
  • Knowledge of the independent media community in Philadelphia region
  • Teaching experience at the community media arts center, college or university level.
  • Fluent in English. Highly desirable if fluent in Spanish or other languages of communities in the Philadelphia region
  • MFA or equivalent experience.

Teaching Artists Wanted

Some of Philadelphia’s most outstanding media makers have taught and presented works at Scribe. We create a venue for experienced media makers to share their skills with emerging artists at our workshops in West Philadelphia and in community media production projects throughout the Philadelphia region. We are looking for talented artists with solid skills in videography, sound recording, editing, animation and motion software, web design and AR/VR production. Most of our instructor/facilitators have MFAs and/or have produced a solid body of creative work. Our hourly rate for teaching is comparable to area colleges.

Freelance Photographers Wanted

Scribe Video Center seeks work-for-hire photographers to document community media projects. The photographer will attend production planning meetings and document community-based productions throughout the Philadelphia area. We are asking for behind the scenes production photos, as well as publicity stills suitable for newspaper, printed brochure, and web-based promotion. Scribe will pay $125 per shoot date for a minimum of ninety minutes per shoot and a minimum of 100 digital images.
