SPRING 2012 Workshops Schedule

This 3-session workshop focuses on preparing an individual for an on air broadcast as talent or a producer. Dyana Williams and Derrick Sampson, hosts of the weekly music program “Soulful Sunday” on WRNB 100.3 FM, will teach participants the skills sets necessary to be a solid broadcaster and to execute a meaningful show, whether it be a music, talk, or news program.

Dyana Williams Bio: (photo above right ) For over three decades, Dyana Williams has remained a constant force in the entertainment industry. Her career spans from broadcasting, community activism, print journalism, television producing/reporting, artist development/media coaching and lecturing. Affectionately named "The Ambassador of African-American Music" by American Express’ Departures magazine, the Harlem, New York native began her career at WHUR-FM in the Nation’s Capitol and later, journeyed back home to the top-rated station, WBLS-FM. In1991, she co-founded the International Association of African-American Music. In her role as a music activist, Ms. Williams co-authored House Concurrent Bill 509 as a means to give credence to the contributions of African-American music as a viable cultural and economic entity. She rallied alongside Congressman Chaka Fattah to pass the bill. Dyana was invited to the White House during the Jimmy Carter and Clinton administrations. During Black Music Month 2007 at the White House, President George W. Bush recognized her for her work in the music industry. She currently is the weekly music program “Soulful Sunday” on WRNB 100.3 FM with radio co-host and co-workshop instructor Derrick Sampson.
Derrick Sampson Bio:
Hailing from South Philadelphia, Derrick Sampson had the passion and drive for the radio industry at an early age. After being selected as a contestant on a game show for 100.3 The Beat, Derrick took his interest in radio to new heights after acquiring an internship with Radio-One. Throughout his practicum, he fell in love with the inner workings of radio and was determined to make it a career. Graduating with a degree in marketing from CCP, Derrick was able to broaden his abilities and knowledge of the field, starting as a promotions assistant, and working his way to becoming a producer. Derrick currently co-hosts and produces the award winning show "Soulful Sunday" with Dyana Williams, establishing a loyal following and entertaining his listeners with his and charming and witty personality.
