Recording Audio for MiniDV Productions

How do you cope with difficult sound situations? What are the pros and cons of wireless microphones? How do you master a mixer? This special two-part workshop will look at important considerations for field recording, particularly with miniDV camcorder productions, including choosing the proper gear for your project. The workshop will also look at some of the newest technological innovations for digital video sound recordings.

Introduction to Non-Linear Editing (Apple’s Final Cut Pro) Section II

Learn basic editing with Apple’s Final Cut Pro, an exciting and powerful non-linear editing program that combines professional capability with consumer-level accessibility. This course builds a strong foundation that gets you started with logging, capturing, editing, transitions and much more. Apple computer knowledge is highly recommended. Participants will be expected to edit assignments outside of class either at their own Final Cut Pro workstation or at Scribe.

Planning a Low-Budget Documentary

DATES: Tuesdays, November 3, 10, 17, 24, December 1 TIME: 7:00 – 9:00 PM (FALL 2009)

Have an idea for a video documentary project? This intensive workshop is designed for people who want to work in small-format video (DV, miniDV and HDV). We will focus on how to creatively develop and break down your idea into a one-page treatment and introduce materials to create project production schedules and a sample budget. This is the ideal workshop for first-time videomakers at the start of their projects.

Scriptwriting for Documentary

DATES: Thursdays, October 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19 December 3 TIME: 7:00 – 9:00 PM (FALL 2009)

Instructor: Louis Massiah
Fee: $115. Free to current Community Visions participants

Through this workshop, participants turn their non-fiction project ideas into workable shooting scripts. The course will cover research, developing and visualizing ideas, scripting and storytelling techniques. At the time of registration participants must submit a one-page description of their film idea for the instructor to review prior to the start of class.
