The Future of Our History
by Jubilee School; edited Lydia Browne
This film documents a two year all-school study of W.E.B. Du Bois engaged in by students in kindergarten through sixth grade at Jubilee School. The film includes a pilgrimage to Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where students visit the graves of Du Bois' wife and young son. It also shows a celebration of Du Bois in Great Barrington which was organized by Jubilee and a local church, at which Du Bois' step-son spoke. It also includes scenes of students engaging in projects based on the work Du Bois did: one class editing a magazine modeled on the "Crisis Magazine" which was edited by Du Bois, and another doing a sociological study on the neighborhood of the school, modeled on "The Philadelphia Negro". The film ends at an anniversary concert celebrating Du Bois at an opera house in Great Barrington, which was opened by poetry and music from Jubilee students. (2009, 26 mins)
