BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez (2015, 90 mins) directed by Barbara Attie, Janet Goldwater and Sabrina Schmidt Gordon.

Sonia Sanchez has been on the front lines of art and activism for 60 years—teaching, writing, performing, protesting.  She was a pioneer of the Black Arts Movement, fought to establish the first university Black Studies program in the country, and has exerted a widely acknowledged influence on the hip-hop and spoken word movements.  Packed with performances, this intimate portrait captures the breadth of Sanchez's rich and often unsettled life.

BARBARA ATTIE and JANET GOLDWATER have been making award-winning broadcast documentaries for more than 25 years. They are recipients of the Pew Fellowship in the Arts. Attie and Goldwater's documentaries often focus on social justice issues affecting women and girls — reproductive rights, violence against women, female genital mutilation — but they also make films about women who have inspired them as artists and activists, such as Maggie Kuhn, the founder of the Gray Panthers, and Sonia Sanchez. SABRINA SCHMIDT GORDON has been editing and producing high impact documentaries for more than 15 years, including the cinema verité documentary, Quest. Gordon lives and works in New York City.
