Part I: A Place to Belong - Screening and Conversation with Portia Cobb and Anula Shetty

The first part in a two-part presentation, this special screening will feature work from experimental media artists Portia Cobb and Anula Shetty. Both filmmakers will discuss their work in relation to place-bound identities and the genealogy of place.

Portia Cobb uses a mix of documentary, personal essay and folklore in her work. She will present a collage of films with subjects drawn from personal and collective histories: Species Endanger ED (made for installation) (1989) No Justice, No Peace:Young, Black, ImMEDIAte! (1992), Drive-by Shoot! (1992) Bus to Freedom, Documentary (2014), and Performing Grace: Tri-parti (for Installation) (2016).

Anula Shetty works in the field of immersive, geo-locative media and creates socially engaged, participatory media art projects with communities. She will screen excerpts from two experimental documentaries, Kamaka ‘Eha, Aching Eye (1996) and Cosmic Egg (work-in-progress).
