PASCEP is a 32-year-old, all volunteer education and outreach program that was created out of struggles in 1970s to make Temple University more responsive to the African American community in North Philadelphia where the University is based. Their video is a celebration of the history and the influence of this institution has had and all the incredible artists and educators who have come through PASCEP's doors.
PASCEP is the Pan African Studies Community Education Program. To access information about classes and other PASCEP activities, you can visit their web address at: http://www.temple.edu/pascep/
PASCEP NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE
I have to say that it was a life changing experience working with Scribe Video on this project. Documenting 32 years of community education, volunteerism and excellence was a daunting task and even more challenging was how to compress it all into 15 minutes of footage. With the expert help of Scribes staff and our facilitator, Sereena we were able to tell the story of this vanguard program at a pivotal time in its life span.
Sadly enough, not long after this documentary began showing around the city, Temple University began its plan to relocate and down-size the program.
A new chapter of this story has begun but without pressure from the community and elected officials, I fear the curtain may be closing on this forever.
Thank you Scribe Video Center for allowing us to realize our community vision.
